This extraordinary little creature is a baby lizard who was found tonight, dry humping a beloved softie in the floor of the kids room (the small person who made the discovery - after his sister fell asleep - is now happily snoring in my bed, on account of it containing a built-in lizard-repeller in the form of Daddy!) We think it might be a variety of frill-necked lizard, since there are definite frills around its jawline, and when Mahe went in close to have a sniff things got puffed up and impressive!
D managed to scopp him/her/it into the dustpan and we released it outside, where it scurried off with purpose. And reminded me that I really must make some draught stoppers (or in our case - critter stoppers!) to deal with the ridiculous space between the floor and the laundry door.
Here's another pic for an idea of scale - it's just a regular dustpan. (I feel the overwhelming urge to apologise ofr the state of my dustpan. I'm waiting for it to pass, ha!) And yes, you can tell we're fresh-off-the-boat by the way we race for the cameras every time we get a glimpse of native wildlife...man, you should see us when we meet a kangaroo!!!
As for the absence, well, it turns out a nasty virus that attacks the glands of the only-remaining-carer in this household is not conducive to active blogging. Or stitching or quilting or much of anything bar feeling sorry for oneself, really! Tragically, it also didn't infuse me with any an indefatigable desire to get this house pristine either, so I have a sneaking suspicion that starting to feel better is going to be celebrated this weekend with the vacuum. And the mop. And a whole lot of quality time in the laundry!
