Stitching the wee birds this past week reminded me of how frustrated I get with cross stitch...I guess I like improv and ad hoc embroidery a little more. (Let's pretend it's because I like to move with the creative flow, rather than that I can't be arsed playing by strict rules for extended periods of time, mkay?) I was enjoying the handwork though so I thought I'd try something else. I confess to being entranced by this design for quite a while now (Vanessa's blog is a candy store for the eyes!), and really wanted to replicate the wreath somehow, but without the cross stitch. It occurred to me the other night that a french knot wreath (with the occasional bead to add a bit of bling) might be rather delicious...and I have been steadily knotting away ever since. I'm rather pleased with how it's coming together, and it's been fun to delve into my special threads box again as well...I didn't realise I had so many greens! The process has been fun, and reminded me of teaching embroidery way back when and how much I enjoyed it...I really must look into doing something like that again in the future.
(Funny thing - I never stitch in a hoop, and made an exception this time because the density of the stitching would destroy this rather flimsy linen otherwise (it's akin to handkerchief weight. No idea when, where or how I acquired it, though I have an inkling I may have picked it up at the fabric store in Seychelles. Which means it is almost certainly faux linen. Thankfully my walls (or whatever will be wearing it as adornment!) aren't picky about fabric content! Anyway...back to the hoop - when Cole and Immy saw me stitching with the fabric in the hoop they were pretty dumbfounded. *Why have you put that on before it is finished, mama?* Beacause in this house, a hoop is apparently only good for framing!)
Kirsty is hosting the Creative Space meme over at Kootoyou...head over to see some more loveliness, and a doily mystery!
