...I might have gone head down, bum up, and finished the quilts more quickly. Or not, given what a singlehandedly-making-the-paving-stones-that-line-the-way-to-Hades kind of gal I am. The crippling combination of high expectations, best of intentions and ridiculous procrastination usually leads to well, a fairly obvious outcome. Or part of one. Or at least the intention of generating one. Tomorrow, maybe.
Anywaaaayyyy....back to the point. Cole and Imogen's quilts are finished! And on their beds! And being loved up to a ridiculous degree...makes a mama giddy to see their new bed coverings cossetted like precious commodities! Immy was gushing so over her quilt, that she even made a bit of a fuss of removing her beloved Cookie from from it when the itty bitty kitty was making herself comfortable. Well, that was until I mentioned that if Cookie loved the quilt as much as Immy did, then maybe Cookie would snuggle on there whilst Immy was sleeping...and since cosleeping with a feline is right up their on Immy's wishlist, Cookie was replaced in her nest (as Cole would say) as quick as a flash! Poor little kitten just about got whiplash.
And Cole, my sweet allergic to covers of any sort kid, well he lasted over half the night snuggled under the quilt. That's some serious affirmation, my lovelies!
And so here they are, in all their glory. Apologies for the craptastic photography - I couldn't get them to stay up anywhere high enough, and the pegs weren't wide enough for me to jimmy rig a hanging spot to the frame of the garage door. And I was too lazy loathe to get the ladder out and deal with the ensuing cats and 3 year olds leaping off ladders onto each other whilst I am teetering on the top rung scenario. (trust me on this - I singlehandedly took down the tree and all decorations in 3 hours. The kids and cats employed that same window of time to take 15 years off my life.) And since my resident tall quilt-holder-upper was back at work (wah! the end of 3 weeks of us all together!) and I wanted to get photos before putting them on the beds, enter the driveway.
The quilts measure a little short of 60" x 90". I'm not sure how much less - they haven't been washed and tumble dried yet. Of course, given that they are on the bed of two people practising sleeping sans absorbent pee pants, their bedding gets an awful lot of one on one time in the laundry and on the line, so rest assured, they'll be all shrunken and slubby and snuggly soon enough!
The backs are mostly a linen/cotton blend that I picked up from Spotlight - not as soft as I was hoping for, but I am perilously short of quilting store options around these parts, and these were the only solids I could get in the vicinity of the colourings I was wanting. As you can see, they each have a bit of piecing to follow through with design on the front. I'm very happy with the way the backs turned out. And just to be clear (warning: neurotic twat ahead!) the quilts are completely flat, I just didn't want to spend too long spreading them out onto the driveway. On account of it being a driveway and all and therefore possibly not the epicentre of clean. Not that is stopped the kids traipsing all over them, grubby paws and all, but then again, they're theirs now to do with what they will.
(tries not to shudder)
A man with long arms has been employed to improve the photographic situation this weekend. There have been bribes.
