(Cole checking out some physically present giraffe at the Wellington Zoo last month.)
We haven't had any imaginary friends around these parts, but imaginary animals are constant companions - I don't know the last time we went to the supermarket without half a dozen cats and dogs, a hippo (or 2) and a peacock in tow!
The other morning on the way to Montessori, Cole was telling me that his 2 giraffes were coming with him this morning (Imogen's 5 dogs and one tiny kitten had already been helped into the boot!). The giraffes being as tall as they are, were galloping beside the car. Cole was telling me all about how these two were exceptionally tall giraffe, and how many vehicles they could step over in a single bound. It was quite thrilling, sharing an otherwise ordinary Rotorua road with such elegant, enormous beasts! I asked Cole if these giraffe had names (because not all do!). *Oh yes* he replied, *the one in front of us is called Rockstar and the one behind is called Stoner.*
I can only hope that us passing a retaining wall in the process of being built at that precise moment had an impact on the names, and it's not because Cole's been sneaking out and watching questionable channels in the middle of the night! I'm bracing myself for a letter from school!
Oh Jolie, I laughed at this post for lots of reasons... not the least, the look on the teacher's face when Cole tells her about Stoner!
And I'm so glad that imaginary pet food is so cheap otherwise you'd be in big trouble trying to feed all those animals!
