We made christmas cards today. Well, we made 48 of them, and I should probably check to see how many more, so I can keep the momentum going...I'm rather spectacular at getting partway through, and then still having 75 unsent cards on my sideboard on the 3rd of January! (I only wish I could laugh that experience off as a one time affair! Oh no, terribly-tardy-despite-best-intentions is a look that apparently suits me well.)
I drew inspiration from this Martha Stewart card idea, though we used paper and bypassed the sewing machine altogether. (Cole and Imogen both adore getting the opportunity to use the machine with me, but I wasn't sure the technicalities of keeping multiple ribbons in place whilst stitching eons of cards would result in a fun and stress less afternoon together...especially since we'd have to switch child-on-knee every card or so to avoid the entire thing devolving into adamant three year olds demanding they get an extra turn to cope with the unjustness of their sibling getting an extra 2.75 seconds at the machine. The UN peacekeeping force should seriously consider training with three year olds.)
Anywho, great fun was had by all applying a little double sided sticky tape to the back of each piece of paper, and then arranging colour combinations and order, and sticking each part onto the card. (And I am finally getting to the point of being able to step back, let go and let them create, rather than micromanaging *their* work. And you know, the finished result is way cooler because of it!) Unfortunately I didn't get a pic of Cole and his utter concentration...
By the way, they're intended to be Christmas trees, but Imogen was horrified that I would even entertain the idea of sending Christmas trees out into the world without a star on top. Since I don't have a star punch (or the inclination to freehand cut several dozen stars!) thankfully the buttons were approved as a suitable alternative. phew!
This is going to be such a lovely Christmas...Cole and Imogen are really getting excited about it all, and I am lovely us being able to do things together to prepare!
