...thought I should end the suspense!
a. we now have a basket full of baby pinecones collected by two very willing helpers. Though to be fair, Imogen was definitely the more interested party in this endeavour. I think she individually named the first 87 cones, and would only allow the babies to be collected...apparently the big kid and grown up pinecones are known as rabble rousers.
b. there was the sum total of 3 pinecones at the park. However, turns out that fun forest just around the corner from our home? Yes, that would be the Redwood Forest...well, wouldn't you know it, but redwoods are pines, and pinecones have been known to spring forth on their ample branches! Duh. (three serious degrees people, and my brain is now the intellectual equivalent of fish paste.) So we wandered down there yesterday and had an utter ball collecting little cones, until we needed to get home on the double thanks to no spare pants. Collecting pinecones can distract you like that. We didn't even get down the whole way of the 1km entry road to the official start of all the tracks in the forest, never mind actually getting down a track...but the 45 minutes it took us to walk the 450m that we did make before needing to change plans, was great fun...full of pinecone collecting, maps-in-the-dirt drawing, secret-path adventuring, funghi-spotting and many many opportunities for expounding one's opinions as to the type of wildlife most likely to inhabit our forest. So far, lions, tigers (who like to eat chocolate but not pirates) and a friendly giraffe who likes to sing I'm a little teapot are the most likely contenders, according to the resident 3 foot experts!
We'll definitely be back for more cone collecting and soon, to finish collecting enough for me to have a play with some hot glue and wreath base. mwahahaha. One of these days we may even get onto the park trails as well!!!
and finally, c. we wore thermals there yesterday. again. Dammit.
