I finally made a start on one of the quilts for the kids' room (it's Immy's, in case you didn't notice that slightest hint of pink!). This is a good thing. And about time.Of course, I did so without a completely clear idea of what I am going to do, so the jury is still out on whether this is going to be an improv piece of gorgeousness, or a really bad idea. Bull at a gate, much?
So far the quilt seems to be piecing itself together in a technically log cabin fashion, but with completely random colour and fabric placement and different widths of fabric. I'm hoping it works! I have however had a piecing epiphany today...a different technique that is a little more fiddly, but seems to have much more accurate results. Yay! Now why did it take a decade+ for me to figure that out?
And in the vein of trying new things, I made a test / sample block this morning before cutting all the fabric - a wonky style square in a square in a square. I never do up test blocks. And I promptly decided it wasn't quite right for what I wanted, so I went right ahead and cut all the fabric differently, and am now piecing it in a discover-the-outcome-as-we-get-there-and-possibly-should-have-thought-this-through-a-little-more manner. That I have no sample for. And now that I look at that original block, I quite like it. Bugger.
to be continued...
(and no, the studio isn't completely unpacked yet. did you even have to ask? :)
I am fully in support of the idea of pretending that you know what you're doing until you actually get to the result you desire!
(also, the knitted tee from the last post is adorble!)
