Another crazy amount of time has passed. Not uneventfully though...I'll be back in the next few days to spill all the beans, but for now, I have to confess feeling all a bit flat. The last few months have been very trying, with an awful lot of stress and heartache and soulsearching...and because this is all sounding very melodramatic, let me assure everyone that a) we all have our health, more or less, and b) we're still a happy, tight little family, so the dramas aren't of that variety! lol
The cherry on the crap cake though? A few weeks ago my external hard drive went to the repair shop. That would be the extra expensive hard drive I bought that was doubly rugged so as to be doubly sure about protecting my precious photos...especially since cds and dvds are prone to being corrupted in this humidity. It had started making a horrid clunking sound and wouldn't work. On Friday I got the news that it is - as they say here - finis. FUBAR. Rooted. and so on. I've spent a good bit of time since then wailing and feeling utterly in mourning....the hard drive has (or had?) every. single. thing. I have put on a computer in the past 5 years. The photos and video alone are enough to send me into a corner....add to that the documents that you amass, all my Bahacoca stock photos, inventories, pricelists, patterns and on and on and on. Oh my. Thank God we at least have several cds stashed in different places with Atticus's photos. But it means that the considerable library of images and video of Cole and Immy is all but decimated. I have about a month's worth of photos on my laptop (I regularly clean the laptop out since it's so notorious for dying on me) and possibly the same amount on D's laptop. And maye the first three months' of their life on other discs that are safe, but that's it. Seriously. Think about the magnitude of that loss for a moment. aye.
The hard drive is in NZ as I write though, as I am hoping against hope that some expert there will have a magic wand and be able to salvage something. It is so heartbreaking. I mean, I know it is just stuff (not people!!!) but it's important stuff, dammit, and I thought I was doing everything right to keep our stuff safe. I guess I see multiple hard drives and disks and lord knows what else in my future!!!
At the end of the day though, it *is* just stuff. And the subject matter of all those photos - these two - and their olds - are safe and sound and happy and wonderful. And that's the biggie.
(and check out that serious beetle we found!!!)
so Um yeah. How's that for a disjointed, badly written post? Back in a few with some fun stuff and legible writing, I hope!
